The Ravino Gardens are an acclimatization botanical park, which gathers in 6,000 square meters the largest and most varied European collection of succulent plants, put together by Captain Giuseppe D'Ambra in over fifty years of passion and framed by the exuberant Mediterranean flora. Each year the collection is enriched with new specimens from all over the world, while those already acclimatized become more and more majestic: the sea view and the happy exposure to the West of our site allow in fact an ideal setting and growth for plants. exotic and the sunset light enhances the sculptural forms and color contrasts of over 400 plant species.
Among the succulent plants (commonly called "fat"), Cacti of all shapes and forms reign, but all with splendid blooms and edible fruits: columnar Cereus, globose Echinocacti and cylindrical Ferocacactus, Climbing Selenicereus, Aporocactus falling, Stenocereus creeping, Espostaa covered in fluff, Pachipodium and Pereskie unique cacti with leaves. But there are countless other succulent plants belonging to the most diverse botanical families: Sedum, Sempervivum, Crassule, Calanchoe, Agavi, Aloe, Palme, Zamie, Macrozamie, Chorisia, Nolina, Ciphostemma .... Among the Mediterranean plants we include a vast collection of citrus fruits, several examples of carob trees, strawberry trees, olive trees, a small organic garden whose products can be tasted at our Cactus Lounge Cafè, a wide representation of aromatic plants: lavender, thyme, oregano, marjoram, mint, damask rose and various varieties of fragrant pelargonium.
The original collection of succulents, improperly known as "succulents", alternate with exotic specimens from the multicolored ecosystems of overseas. Gigantic saguars, secular cacti of unparalleled height, indispensable extras of any self-respecting western, have found in this piece of Mediterranean ideal residence Cycadee, palms, musaceae alternate with gigantic grusoni, also known by the ironic name of "mother-in-law's pillows" due to their globular conformation and the constellation of pointed spines.
Ferocactus, agaves, aloes and prickly pears intertwine, in a scenario of portentous charm, with the typical Mediterranean scrub, in a stage devoted to eco-sustainability where it will not be difficult to observe peacocks and rabbits in full freedom in this amazing and fascinating scenario . In a corner of the garden stand two specimens of what is considered the most important botanical discovery of the last century: the Wollemia nobilis, a very rare plant specimen whose fossil traces date back to 90 million years ago. A conifer from the Jurassic era believed extinct until 1994, when in Australia it was rediscovered in a wood in Wollemi National Park. Here, the steepest tuffaceous slopes are scattered with small bridges and wonderful viewpoints from which, at sunset, the golden light of the sunset spreads an enchanting atmosphere on the garden.
The Ravino Gardens, thanks to their convenient location, served by four public bus lines and convenient free parking, but away from the chaos of crowded places, are the ideal place to organize concerts, conferences and theatrical performances, representing a fundamental point of reference for the cultural universe that revolves around the island of Ischia.
